Device Design
Assignments, Winter 2015
Assignment 1. Due Tuesday, 1/13/15
- Design a diode (1D structure) with thickness of 10 um to minimize on voltage at a forward current of 4.5 A while ensuring that the off current at a reverse voltages up to -30 V remain below 0.1 mA. Test and optimize your design using Synopsys TCAD tools.
- What device would you like to design? What would be some requirements and/or figures of merit that would define success for your design?
Assignment 2. Due Tuesday 1/27/15
- In class preentation of proposed proposed project including requirements and goals.
Assignment 3. Due Thursday 2/5/15
- Report based on Assignment 2
Assignment 4. Due Tuesday 2/24/15
- Schematic of your device structure and initial simulation of device design.
- Comparison of simulation results to estimates from hand calculations.
- List of parameters that you plan to vary in order to optimize device performance.
Assignment 5. Due Tuesday 3/10/15
- In class presentation of design project.
Assignment 6. Due Friday 2/20/15
- Final project report.
- Description of need your design is aimed to fill and summary of requirements
and figures of merit used to quantify success of design.
- Description of the high level structure of your design.
- Calculations used to estimate appropriate device parameters (e.g.,
dimensions, concentrations).
- Comparison of device operation from full simulation to estimates
from hand calculations.
- Broader considerations involved in design (e.g., cost, standards,
environmental impact,
- Results of optimization of device parameters to achieve requirements
and maximize figures of merit.
- Analysis of robustness and manufacturability of your design (e.g.,
impact of environmental conditions and process variations).
- Summary and conclusions.
