Circuit Theory

Midterm exam

  • Friday 02/02/2001, in class, 1:30-2:20 PM.
  • Counts 20% of course grade.

Rules and guidelines:

  1. 1 page (8.5"x11", 2-sided) of notes.
  2. Closed book.
  3. NO homeworks, NO solutions, NO labs, NO other materials permitted. Blank pages for working problems OK.
  4. Calculator OK.
  5. Academic misconduct rules strictly enforced. Individual work, NO copying, NO discussion with another person.
  6. Exam must be taken in class on Friday 02-02-2001 or before by advance request. NO make-up exam after the in-class exam.
  7. Materials covered: see Class Schedule, through Friday 01-26. Materials from prerequisite courses are automatically included.
  8. Skills examined: see Class Syllabus for the following:
    • ABET criteria: Outcomes 3a, 3c, 3e.
    • Learning objectives: Objectives 1, 2, 3.
  9. Format:
    • Two problems (30 points, 40 points)
    • Two multiple-choice questions (15 points each)
  10. Grading:
    • Crossed-out work will not be graded.
    • Work on back side of a page will not be graded (1 blank page already inserted after each problem for your solution).
    • Only clearly written work will be graded.
    • Partial credits will be given only for correct techniques, NOT for correct answers when the technique used is obviously wrong.
    • Multiple-choice questions do not carry partial credits.
  11. Extra office hours (in addition to regular office hours) during the week of January 29 only: M 8:30-9:20, T 11:00-noon, W 3:30-4:20.

Rules and guidelines:

  3. NO homeworks, NO solutions, NO labs, NO other materials permitted. Blank pages for working problems are included in the exam packet. Semilog graph paper, if necessary, is included in the exam packet.
  4. Calculator OK.
  5. Academic misconduct rules strictly enforced. Individual work, NO copying, NO discussion with another person.
  6. Exam must be taken in class on Monday 03-12-2001 or before by advance request. NO make-up exam after the in-class exam.
  7. Materials covered: see Class Schedule, from the beginning of the quarter through Monday 03-05. Materials from laboratory experiments, SPICE, and prerequisite courses are automatically included.
  8. Skills examined: see Class Syllabus for the following:
    • ABET criteria: all listed outcomes
    • Learning objectives: all listed objectives
  9. Format: the exam will be designed so students will have sufficient time to do all the following.
    • Two problems (40 points, 45 points)
    • Three multiple-choice questions (5 points each)
    • Extra-credit multiple-choice questions to help with midterm score:
      • Three questions (correct=10 pts, blank=0, incorrect=-3 pts)
      • Total score from these three extra-credit questions only will be added to the midterm score, up to a maximum of 100 points total for the midterm.
      • If the total score for these 3 questions is negative, nothing will be added or subtracted from the midterm original score.

  12. Weighs of midterm and final in course grade: a student may choose any one of the 3 options below and email the choice to the instructor (soma@ee.washington.edu) by 5 PM Friday 03-09. The midterm score is the score including the extra-credit score described above. No choice or any email after 5 PM Friday 03-09 means the automatic default Option 1.
    • Option 1 (Default): 20% midterm, 40% final.
    • Option 2: 10% midterm, 50% final.
    • Option 3: 0% midterm, 60% final.
